Start with the surface and the finish
A specialty finish begins with understanding what is already on the surface. Cabinets, built-ins, doors and detailed trim can have different substrates, previous coatings and wear patterns. During a walkthrough, discuss the result you want and which surfaces should be included. The proposal identifies the preparation and coating approach for that project.

Cabinets and built-ins
Refinishing can change the look of existing cabinetry without replacing the whole installation. Cleaning, adhesion, sanding and a compatible coating system matter to the finished result. Bring examples of your preferred color and sheen, and discuss door fronts, drawer fronts, exposed ends, interior surfaces and hardware so the written scope is clear.

Doors, trim and detailed surfaces
Small surfaces still need deliberate preparation. Existing damage, profiles, joints and nearby finishes influence the work. We discuss which repairs belong in the painting scope and where another trade may be needed, then plan protection and application around the surrounding space.
See interior painting for room, trim and full-interior projects.

Exterior details and exposed surfaces
Exterior doors, trim, fences and railings face moisture, sunlight and regular use. A coating should suit the material and exposure; the walkthrough helps establish whether cleaning, sanding, priming or refinishing is appropriate. Access and weather also affect the schedule.
See exterior painting for siding and related exterior work.

Questions to settle before work begins
- Which pieces and surfaces are included?
- What existing coating or condition needs attention?
- What color, sheen and finish system will be proposed?
- How will nearby surfaces, hardware and belongings be protected?
- What access, drying time and use restrictions should you plan for?

Put the details in writing
Share photos and your goals when requesting an estimate. An on-site review helps us discuss the surfaces and prepare a written proposal with the work, products, inclusions, exclusions and schedule assumptions. If you have an unusual material or finish in mind, describe it before scheduling so suitability can be assessed.
